Preceptorship with Rooted Psychiatry
Here at Rooted we believe in providing high quality and education to the next generation of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. We do provide preceptorships for graduate students.

What is a preceptorship?
“Preceptorship” is the term that is used to describe the hours required to complete a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program. To enter these programs, an individual must already be a nurse with a Bachelor’s degree as this is a graduate program. This usually includes a mix of the student observing the “preceptor” (licensed PMHNP) and eventually conducting patient evaluations while supervised. At Rooted, students never interview patients or make clinical decisions on their own. Also, a patient must provide written consent for a student to be involved in their care. Any patient may choose not to participate in Rooted’s educational program (and that’s perfectly okay!). However, many patients find it fun and uplifting to help a student provide excellent psychiatric care. Patients are our best teachers.
“Student, you do not study to pass the test. You study to prepare for the day that you are the only thing that stands between the patient and the grave.”
